Obituary for Jane E. Tanner

Jane E. Tanner, age 71, of Huntingburg, passed away at 12:25 a.m., on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper surrounded by family.

She was born January 4, 1947, in Huntingburg, Indiana, the middle daughter of Maurice and Edna (Peters) Overbeck. Jane was very accomplished at sewing and the art of lace tatting, and put her skills to use as manager of the seamstress department at Siebert’s Clothing Store in Jasper. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg. Jane played the dulcimer with her sisters and parents, who called themselves The Averbach Strings, and they enjoyed playing music and displaying their wares at various local flea markets and re-enactments. She was preceded in death by her father, Maurice Overbeck.

Jane is survived by her husband, John Scott Tanner of Huntingburg; her mother, Edna Overbeck of Jasper; two daughters, Susan (spouse, Brian) Davies Dessauer of Wadesville, Ind. and Loraine (spouse, Brad) Davies Garner of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; two stepchildren, Shawn (spouse, Angie) Tanner of Trenton, Ohio and Nicole Tanner of Huntingburg, Ind.; two sisters, Ann (spouse, Roger) Fierst of Bloomington, Ind. and Martha (spouse, Larry) Feldmeyer of Huntingburg, Ind.; by (11) grandchildren, Josh (spouse, Erin) Dessauer, Caleb (spouse, Haley) Dessauer, Butch Dessauer, Ben Dessauer, Trinity Dessauer, Brianna Garner, Logan (spouse, Emily) Garner, Brett Houchins, Jordan Houchins, Jade Houchins and Jayden Tanner; and by (3) great grandchildren, Justice Dessauer, Noble Dessauer and Eli Houchins.

Memorial services for Jane Tanner will be held at 10:00 a.m., E.S.T., on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial of her cremains to follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg. Chaplain Brad Garner will officiate at the service.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 4:00-8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, February 21st. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Salem United Church of Christ or to a favorite charity. Condolences may be shared online at:
