Obituary for Herschel D. Kamman

Herschel David Kamman, age 85, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on the morning of May 21, 2019.

He was a lifelong IU fan and St. Louis Cardinal’s fan and you’d often see him in his beloved IU sweatshirts and red Air Jordan’s.

He proudly served for the United States Army Infantry Division from 1951-1953. He hardly sat still and was a dedicated labor worker for the Holland Dairy of 52 years before retiring. He cared for his hometown and served 28 years as a Cass Township Trustee.

He was born August 10, 1933 in Huntingburg, IN to Gilbert and Augusta “Gussie” (Oxley) Kamman. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Harold “Butch” Kamman.

Herschel married the love of his life, Sharon (Simpson) Kamman, 61 years ago, with whom they had two boys: Rex (Kim) Kamman and John Kamman.

He taught them hard work, dedication, and above all, love and commitment to family.

He had extreme pride and care for his several grandchildren; Dena (Eddie) Rasche, Leah (Matt) Kunz, Sara (Nathan) Durcholz, Cameron Kamman, Keshia (Brock) Matthews, and Katie, Andi, and Benjamin Flamion; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was fond of saying phrases like “Turn off the idiot box” “No monkey business” and “Be careful” to his kids and grandkids.

Herschel will be remembered by family and friends as a father, proud patriot, Army veteran, but above all, loving husband to the love of his life.

Funeral services for Herschel Kamman will be held at 10:00 a.m., E.D.T., Saturday, May 25, 2019, at Zoar United Methodist Church in Zoar. Pastor Keith Chanley will officiate at the service. Burial will take place at Zoar Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Holland American Legion Memorial Detail.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 4:00-8:00 p.m., on Friday, May 24th; and also at Zoar United Methodist Church one hour prior to the funeral Saturday morning. Memorial contributions may be made to Zoar United Methodist Church. Condolences may be shared online at: www.nassandson.com
